Dangers of kids and cars during the winter

The average puffy coat or snowsuit usually adds about 4 inches of slack into the child’s harness straps. Those extra 4 inches significantly increases the risk of injury and particularly head injury. If there is every a place to cross your Ts and dot your I’s, your child’s car seat is certainly the place. It can literally save your child’s life.

The fluff from your child’s jacket can make it seem like their straps on the car seat are snug but in all reality they are actually loose putting your child’s life in danger. A way that you can test whether or not the straps are tight enough is, if you have room for more than one finger at your child’s collar bone than the straps are too loose. The straps aren’t actually holding in your child’s body.

It is important to secure your child with the cars seat straps because, in an accident the child’s body will come to a jolting stop allowing the child to move forward. That increases the child’s risk of hitting their head on windows, or doors, or seats in front of them.

To still keep your child warm without the big fluffy coat try layering their clothing. Below is a picture for the correct way to strap your child in.

I wanted an environment where I would be able to take my son to school, and know that he was going to school and not just to a babysitter. I found that in a local preschool that’s no longer open. We were excited about my son having the opportunity to be in a learning environment and to go to school.

We are offering you the same opportunity that I was looking for when I wanted my son in a school-like environment. Here at Akeba Academy our classrooms are set up for the school-like environment and our children wear uniforms. We offer parents the help they need because we provide quality childcare. We also provide all of the essentials with our rates, from your mat, to cover, to food. No longer will you have to pay each item as separate price. All of it is included with our weekly rates.

At What Age Should My Child Start Childcare?

In truth, there is no best time to start childcare. The decision entirely rests on what suits your family and your child. Irrespective of the age, the first time you leave your child in childcare, it is bound to be challenging. Your child may cry for the first few days, but eventually things will start getting easier.

Usually, when parents wait longer for placing their child in childcare, it gives them more time to bond with each other, for the umbilical cord to heal completely, and for other newborn newness faced by both parent and child to diminish. This adjustment period is said to be between 3-6 months. However, if you’re a working mom, and have only a six-week maternity leave, then starting childcare between 3-6 months is not a practical option for you. Where here at Akeba Academy we start accepting children at the age of 6 weeks old. So the 3-6 month wait will not become an inconvenience to parents.Image result for parents talking to baby teacher

The prevalent practice in childcare institutions is that a healthy and full-term infant can be enrolled into a childcare program at 6 weeks of age. Institutes such as Akeba Academy equipped to handle infants and cater to their special needs. If the young age of your child gives you anxiety, you can build a relationship with your child care worker and get regular updates about their progress. Here at Akeba Academy we believe in a open line of communication to all parents on their child’s progress throughout the day.Image result for parents talking to baby teacher

Preparing For Preschool

Starting preschool is one of the many exciting milestones of childhood. However, it can also be a stressful time for both children and parents, especially if it is your child’s first time going to school. By taking some time to prepare your child and yourself, the transition can go smoothly for your whole family.

Keep your child informed. It is natural for your child to be nervous about going to preschool. Talk to your child about preschool and what he will do there. Try to keep these conversations casual so your child does not feel intimidated or overwhelmed.

Use books to prepare. Include some children’s books about the first day of school along with the other books you and your child read together. This will give your child the opportunity to ask questions and express any fears she may have. You can ask her new teachers or the librarian at your public library for recommendations.

Get into a routine. Start to adjust your child’s sleeping and eating schedules slowly in the weeks leading up to the first day of preschool. This will help smooth the transition and make him more comfortable when school finally starts and you have to be out the door at a certain time.

Go for a visit. Find out if your child’s preschool has a visiting day or orientation for new families. This is an opportunity for you to talk with the teachers and have your questions answered. Your child will also have a chance to meet his teachers, other students, and experience the preschool with you present.

Meet other preschoolers. If possible, organize a play date or two with children who will be in your child’s preschool class. This way not every face in the classroom will be unfamiliar when your child enters her classroom on the first day, and you can find other parents to share experiences with.

Give it time. Leave plenty of time on the first day to arrive at school and be prepared to spend some time in the classroom with your child. Some preschools even request that parents stay in the classroom for all or part of the first day of school. Anticipate some ups and downs the first few weeks of school as your child gets settled, but know that soon your whole family will be adjusted to your new routine.

Here at Akeba Academy we can help prepare your child for preschool with our learning made easy curriculum. We are actually enrolling kids now to be apart of our preschool program. Give us a call today (9120 289 – 2725kids learning outside

Benefits Of Reading To Your Toddler

Reading to your toddler

When to expect it: Receptive language (the understanding that words have meaning) develops on a different timeline than expressive language (the ability to say words with meaning) — and your child is likely to understand words in books long before he can say most of them. Between 12 and 18 months of age, many toddlers demonstrate their growing word comprehension by pointing to the colors, animals, characters and objects in a book that they know the words for. Because many toddlers are also continuing to develop fine motor skills at this time, your toddler may particularly love books that have interactive elements, such as flaps, popups and buttons.

Read to your toddler often — it’s so important for many reasons. Toddlers are:

  • Little word processors. This is the age when children’s vocabularies blossimage1om. Reading reinforces their understanding of the new words they’re learning and the contexts they’re used in —
  • Ready to build their literary skills. Reading to a toddler sets the foundation for toddler learning, including mastering ABCs, developing phonemic awareness (meaning he’s starting to understand that words are made up of groups of sounds) and learning that those marks on a page represent letters and words (and things and concepts).
  • Better prepared for school with books. Although “real” school may seem light-years away, it’s just around the corner (and most kids are expected to start reading, at least on a rudimentary level, in kindergarten). Children who are introduced to reading early tend to read earlier themselves.
  • Apt to benefit from books about growing up. The road from babyhood to big kid can be bumpy between 1 to 3 or so not to mention the potential frustrations and fears he may encounter. Reading to a toddler can help you cover these subjects in ways your child can understand, as well as help him adjust to the brave new world he faces.

How to help your baby discover it: The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends reading sessions from infancy on to prepare your child for lifelong success, since kids who are read to as babies have better language skills and are more interested in reading when they start school. Sharing a book also helps babies and parents bond, which the AAP notes is essential for a child’s cognitive and social-emotional development. So from an early age, read often to your little one, pointing out objects, characters, animals, colors, textures and sizes in the pictures he sees.

We know how important reading is and how much of an impact it has on the lives of young children. That’s why here at Akeba Academy our teachers read to the students every day. The pictures above are our Toddler One and Preschool class having story time.

Healthy Snacks For Toddlers

Despite what your mother used to tell you when you were a kid, snacks don’t have to spoil your appetite. In fact, when it comes to toddlers, healthy snacks should be a staple of their diet. It’s practically impossible for toddlers, with their tiny tummies, to eat as much as they need at mealtimes. And even if it were possible, you’d be hard-pressed to get a toddler to sit long enough at the table tohealthy snack blog eat a large meal So nourishing snacks are needed to fill in the nutritional gaps — and to keep those little tummies filled up. And if that’s not reason enough to keep the healthy snacks coming, consider this bonus: Snacks at regular intervals mean fewer hunger-fueled meltdowns.

Importance of Preschool

The majority of kids attend at least one year of preschool. Children who attend preschool enter kindergarten with better skills, and stronger basic math skills than those who do not go to preschool. Also to above skills children can learn to be respectful of others and also build confidence. Preschool provide a better way of teaching. Rather than sit kids down and ‘teach’ them, children learn best through doing the kinds of activities they like.

It supports that early education is key to long-term achievement. Many working parents could benefit from childcare. There is a growing belief that children gain a lot of knowledge from going to preschool. At preschool, children are exposed to information, numbers, letters, and shape. More important children learn how to interact with people — get along with other children and share.

Is FREE Childcare Better Than Private Childpreschoolcare?

Free Childcare:

The Government appreciates that the requirements of the children and the parents may change from time to time. For this purpose, the Government encourages flexibility on the part of the service provider.

Effective changes in the later educational outcomes of three-year-olds saw large increases in free early education. Changes are sighted making childcare easier. Children from a poor upbringing tend to have inferior language skills when they arrive at school.

Benefits of Free Childcare:

  • Free Childcare Center function in a variety of places including offices, community centers, schools and places of worship.
  • Free child care benefits disadvantaged children to improve their skills and show their abilities.
  • It can help your child to socialize with other children

But free childcare policy has no educational benefits in the longer term. It might be because the private pre-school places were high enough quality. Free childcare offer less personal one-to-one care

Private Childcare:

Child care is the supervision of a child or children. Private Childcare can run out of centers or private homes.Circle Time

Benefits of private childcare:

  • Private childcare is licensed private-home day care. These type of childcare Centers are Government- regulated and inspected.
  • Children of the same family can place together.
  • The caretaker has to assure safety and security of the child.
  • The caretaker has to meet standards of care.

But then again private childcare is expensive. Also, it works to fixed times with no flexibility if you need to work late or drop off early.

Here at Akeba Academy your kids will be safe and secure, they also will get attention and learn new things. We have a potty training system. We work hard to improve their math and reading skills. How to encourage creativity in your children

As parents we all need to work on teaching our kids the life skill to enjoy some quiet time while encouraging their creativity.

Creativity1

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Turn off the televisions: Initially, after a bit of whining and screaming in the morning, they will find their way to the craft space. It will take months before it becomes their routine to regularly start their day drawing or making something in their jammies.
  2. Have a large cleared off, flat surface where they can design:
Children just need their own fancy flat space to spread out. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a customized space, or even a simple desk will be helpful.
If kids feel cramped up, they get bored easily and soon start begging for a television.
  3. Have a vast array of art and craft supplies within their reach: Keep your desk drawers and shelves filled with both your things and baskets of twine, glue, glitter, wash tape and loads of every coloring device imaginable. Make sure all their supplies are handy and easily accessible.
  4. Be calm and satisfied with random: The creation children put together often insensible. Plastic gems are stuck haphazardly to scrapbook paper and then painted over. It won’t always be pretty, but they will keep themselves happily busy for hours.
  5. Periodically organize, clean out, and restock supplies. Art and craft isn’t much fun when all your stuff is cluttered, crayons are small nubs, and glue bottle cap is dried shut.
Few things in the world are more inviting than a clean and tidy space, and freshly sharpened pencils.
  6. Surprise them with new projects from time to time: Every once in a while, I’ll come home with a package of foam sheets, or a new color of glitter, or even a simple wooden birdhouse ready for painting.

Often they start with the new product, and keep right on going. For hours.

With a little bit of advance planning, a vow not to interfere or nag, and an oath not to turn on the television, you will be more than thrilled with the kind of creativity you strike in your kids and the things they create.

Everyday here at Akeba Academy, we encourage children to express their creativity.  We give them different exercises and activities that are a learning experience as well as  a chance for the children to use their imagination.
