At What Age Should My Child Start Childcare?

In truth, there is no best time to start childcare. The decision entirely rests on what suits your family and your child. Irrespective of the age, the first time you leave your child in childcare, it is bound to be challenging. Your child may cry for the first few days, but eventually things will start getting easier.

Usually, when parents wait longer for placing their child in childcare, it gives them more time to bond with each other, for the umbilical cord to heal completely, and for other newborn newness faced by both parent and child to diminish. This adjustment period is said to be between 3-6 months. However, if you’re a working mom, and have only a six-week maternity leave, then starting childcare between 3-6 months is not a practical option for you. Where here at Akeba Academy we start accepting children at the age of 6 weeks old. So the 3-6 month wait will not become an inconvenience to parents.Image result for parents talking to baby teacher

The prevalent practice in childcare institutions is that a healthy and full-term infant can be enrolled into a childcare program at 6 weeks of age. Institutes such as Akeba Academy equipped to handle infants and cater to their special needs. If the young age of your child gives you anxiety, you can build a relationship with your child care worker and get regular updates about their progress. Here at Akeba Academy we believe in a open line of communication to all parents on their child’s progress throughout the day.Image result for parents talking to baby teacher

How to Prevent a Diaper Rash

You may not always know the reason behind your baby being uncomfortable and we know how mad that makes you. But when you discover little red bumps or see blotchy red skin on your baby’s sweet bottom then you’re bound to freak out a little. But don’t worry; a diaper rash is pretty much part of the baby package. And thankfully there are several ways to prevent diaper rash.

We have a few tips to share with you:

  1. Most importantly, you must keep your baby’s skin as clean and dry as possible. This means change the wet and soiled diaper right away. The diaper friction and the wetness make those cheeks more exposed to irritation.
  2. Choose wipes that are gentle, mild and designated to baby’s special needs. Scented wipes and soaps that come in contact with their skin can cause irritation to their nether region. Instead of using wipes, clean the baby’s bottom with a soft washcloth soaked in warm water. Warm water should do the job.
  3. After every change, let her air-dry as much as possible. You can play with your baby while she’s resting on a waterproof pad and let her bottoms get some much needed air-time.
  4. Block that rash with diaper creams and ointments that act as a barrier between the baby soft skin and the irritants. Ointments like old petroleum jelly and those containing zinc-oxide (like Balmex). Apply it thickly yet gently because rubbing and scrubbing will make your baby’s skin more prone to rashes.
  5. A very tight diaper can cause chafing. Loosen-up the diaper without any risk of major leak.

Every baby’s bottom is different, so experiment to see which works best for preventing diaper rash on your little one. Sometimes you may want to experiment different diapers. But you need to remember that replacing the peed-in or pooped-in diaper with a clean, dry one plays the key role in preventing rashes.
